How it all began ...
Ing. Ernst Royer, born in 1926, a genuine Schladminger from a large family, founded an extremely successful construction company in Vienna, practically from scratch, specialising in railway construction. After he had already opened a restaurant in Schladming, the Steirische Rauchkuchl, he decided at the beginning of the 1970s, at the urging of the people of Schladming, to enrich tourism by building a hotel.
1975
In January 1975, the Sporthotel Royer was grandly opened with 65 rooms, its own staff house and a host of celebrities. In response to the popularity of many target groups, the south extension was the first room extension. At the same time, the indoor pool was builttogether with the municipality of Schladming.
1980
In view of the 1982 Alpine World Ski Championships, Ing. Royer decided to further expand and remodel the hotel in the largest private World Championships initiative: Enlarging the restaurant, installing a rotisserie, adding a tennis hall, an underground car park and doubling the room capacity.
1982
Just in time for the start of the World Cup season, the expanded hotel was opened as an official FIS hotel. In addition to our loyal regular guests, numerous international celebrities from sport, politics, business and society were welcomed to the new Royer on the occasion of this event.
1987
New construction of the hotel bar.
1993
Construction & consecration of a house chapel.
2002
Construction of a golf training facility.
2001-2006
Renovation and technical upgrade of all 130 hotel rooms, the main restaurant and expansion of the sauna & relaxation area.
Conversion of the heating system to bio district heating.
Upgrading of the ski room with a modern debris drying system.
2013
Before the highlight of 2013, the 2nd Alpine World Ski Championships in Schladming: New lift in the main building, remodelling of the hotel bar and expansion to include a cigar lounge. Complete remodelling of the à la carte restaurant “Steirerstüberl“, the main hotel entrance and all seminar rooms.
2014
Construction of a large coach park, new reception design, renovation of the rooms and the Kids Club. Opening of the popular hairdressing salon “Petra Pitzer” in the hotel.
2016
Co-management by Ing. Royer’s daughter successor, Mag. Julia Royer.
2018
Renovation and redesign of the basement/bathroom corridor.
2019
Complete remodelling of the exterior façade and window renovation: removal of the huge concrete troughs of the balconies and equipping the rooms with glass balconies. A new colour concept and the integration of materials typical of the region, such as wood and metal, give the sports hotel a modern cosiness.
2020
Redesign of the restaurant and parlour terraces, which offer space, nature and hospitality.
March 2020
Appointment of Ing. Royer as an honorary citizen for his services to the development of tourism in the town of Schladming.
2024
Complete renovation of the rooms in the adjacent staff house. Expansion of the children’s area to include the “Teens Lounge“.
Not a year goes by
…in which sophisticated investments are not made to improve the Sporthotel. As before, Mr. Ing. Royer, with the support of the entire Royer team, is always personally concerned about the well-being of the guests.
